A new research discovered how the dreams can change when a person sleeps. It turns out that the picture and nature of the dream can become more complex depending on the stage of the dream. That is, with the period of change in the stage of sleep, the quality of dreams also changes. Until a certain point, the science believed that a person can dream of dreams only in the so-called phase of REM sleep.
But a new research opened up new possibilities: people sometimes remember the essence of sleep, even when they wake up not in its rapid phase. Whether these two types of dreams can be different in nature is a question the neuroscientists will try to answer.
During the experiments, it turned out that the patient, awakened in the REM sleep phase, is able to recall the vivid and emotional moments of the dream. Often a dream is a whole story with vivid pictures. Those who wake up in a different stage of sleep remember it poorly, but if the memory reproduces a dream, then it turns out to be more meaningful.
The scientists from Brazil are currently conducting a research on this topic. They developed a high-speed analysis tool. It is able to take quality sleep reports and display them in a more objective graphical form, taking into account bias in both length and content.
The dreams outside of REM sleep are like movies, longer and clearer, according to the neuroscientist Cedart Ribeiro of the University of São Paulo. The automation of the dream analysis process was able to quantify that structural difference for the first time in history.
Previous traditional methods of analyzing human sleep were based on meaning analysis, and this non-semantic analysis helped focus on the length of sleep and its effects on the brain, consciousness, psychological behavior and perception.
But the scientists are not going to diminish the importance of traditional methods, since the computational principle still has to go through many experiments and confirm its importance and effectiveness. In general, that approach to the study of dreams will help scientists in the treatment of many deviations in human psychological development.
