Ecological superfood: wheat grass will be eaten

The specialists from the American society of agronomists raised a new variety of ecologically clean feed food. It is unique in that 63% of the product is freed from the husk that has a huge amount of the nutrients. The scientists have recognized the new variety of feed wheatgrass varieties as a healthy crop. Traditionally, it is used as animal feed. However, now the situation has changed.

The new variety has become food, environmentally friendly and cost-effective. James Anderson, who is a professor at the University of Minnesota, noted that as the experiment the agronomists are trying to grow the so-called intermediate wheat, available for public.

The new variety was named MN-Clearwater. It was obtained by crossing seven parental varieties. Each of them was distinguished by high productivity. Breeders managed to create a completely unique variety that benefits not only the farmers, but also the environment.

A wheatgrass is considered as a perennial plant, the root system of that's favorably affects the soil. Before reaching groundwater, dense roots, growing, protect groundwater systems. A perennial plant does not require annual fertilizing, it is enough to produce it periodically.

Convenience for farmers is that the crop should be planted once every three years, and you can get several crops. Not only the farmer benefits. The whole plant base of the variety has high nutritional qualities and can be used as food.

Wheatgrass goes well with wheat-based products. It can completely replace the wheat base. It has excellent baking qualities. Also, a new plant product is supposed to be used in brewing. High quality fermentation contributes to an excellent beer drink.
